Summer Sunshine

It's amazing how much heat these flowers can take, no?

The weather has been crazy these past few weeks, being out in the sun for at least an hour would probably cause one a rather nasty sunburn. (no exaggeration there)

Apparently, these flowers, called the bougainvillea, thrive in warm climates and do not need a lot of water. They make for nice indoor plants too.

For someone without a green thumb, this is a rather convenient low-maintenance plant to grow, you think?

Although, I read somewhere that being in contact with the sap of the bourgainvillea can cause an allergic reaction to the skin similar to that of poison oak/ivy...

Then again, it blooms into such a wonderful pink colour!

Have a lovely week ahead.

This is a plant that grows prolifically throughout the deserts of Arizona. I planted a pink one like this last year, although they come in many different shades of red and bright pink, even lavendar, orange, and white. They are easy to maintain and once established need very little water. They can be difficult to prune with those long nasty thorns but who cares because they are so beautiful. This one looks like it's doing very well and growing quite large. Thanks for sharing.

One of my favorite flowers. We had one growing all over our wall in Tucson, Az., but we can't grow them here...too far North. Great macro shot.

Beautiful! I killed one of those last year. Apparently they do need SOME water. Live and learn. ;)

We choose the same flower this week! The weather's killing me, I've been cooped up at home for days now, a trip to the nearby market ended up with another shower!
